“We believe that green transition within food production is possible, but it will require a profound and lasting change in our ways. We must collaborate across professions. We should, to a greater extent, develop new technologies and explore new ways of using existing ones. We need to prioritize making sustainable and efficient products, that bring value to the end user.“
Sustainability is the goal of everything we do
We want to develop solutions that ensure food security, protect our ecosystems, preserve natural resources, improve our health, and keep our planet liveable. It is something we must address now, as the decisions we make today, impact the lives of future generations.
Our goals
Ensure that healthy food is affordable and available to everyone
Decrease the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides
Preserve soil fertility for the future generations
Reverse the conversion of nature into farmland
Preserve food without chemicals and minimize food waste
Reduce climate gas emissions
Reduce nutrient pollution in our water and improve water quality
Recycle our wastes to become more circular
Improve human health

Our future company
“Going green requires ongoing work and dedication.”
Often, there is a belief that sustainable changes will slow the progress, the quality of science, or impact safety. We believe, that it is possible to build a company, that works towards becoming sustainable, and at the same time, uphold a high scientific and quality standard, while retaining efficiency.
In an ideal world, we would be working in a zero-waste, green laboratory and an office that is sustainable. This is a huge challenge for any company, and even more so for a company with laboratories, where single-use plastics, sterile conditions and ultracold freezers are needed for certain sensitive experiments. We prioritize making changes where possible, and even small changes can go a long way.
Plastic alternatives
We buy reusable metal instruments instead of single-use plastics, where possible.
Lower energy consumption
Our –80 freezer has been set to –70.
Our equipment is turned off when not in use.
Lower resource consumption
We collect rainwater for our plant experiments.
We reuse received packaging.
Better waste disposal
We sort our waste according to recommendations.
Green chemicals
We use bio-based chemicals instead of petrochemicals.
We avoid hazardous chemicals whenever an alternative is available.
Sustainable production
We use plant-based and waste-based feedstocks when growing our microbes.
We minimize the water content in our products to reduce emissions related to transportation.
Local vendors
We try to support our local community and make sure our purchases travel less to reach us.
